Virtual Learning Group Daily Schedules
The Eureka math curriculum was created by Great Minds, a nonprofit that brought teachers and experts to craft a program based on the world’s most successful math programs. Eureka was built are the core principal that students need to know more then just what works when solving a problem – they need to understand why it works.
The curriculum goes beyond facts and formulas, teaching students to think about math conceptually. This helps students become not merely literate, but fluent in mathematics.
Topic-level tip sheets will be sent home for each unit to explain math strategies and models, provide key vocabulary, sample problems, and links to useful videos. Individual lesson practice pages will be sent home as well.
Reading and Phonics
Fundations® is a multisensory and systematic phonics, spelling, and handwriting program that benefits all K-3 students.
Informed by an extensive research base and following principles of instruction demonstrating success for a wide variety of learners. Fundations thoroughly teaches the foundational skills, and significantly supports the reading, writing, and language standards, found in states’ rigorous college- and career-ready standards. It presents the following concepts and skills in a cumulative manner from Unit to Unit and year to year: Letter formation, Phonological and phonemic awareness, Sound mastery, Phonics, word study, and advanced word study, Irregular (trick) word instruction, Vocabulary, Fluency, Comprehension strategies, Written composition (spelling and handwriting).
We use Guided Reading in the classroom in small groups. Your child will be assigned a guided reading level based on their decoding, comprehension, and fluency. The levels range from A-Z. Level A represents an entry level reader and level Z, the highest. I will work with your child in a small group setting to help them become a better reader. We will work throughout the year, increasing their level as they are developmentally ready.
The wonderful thing about Guided Reading is that your child will be reading on their own level!
The Units of Study in Opinion, Information, and Narrative Writing: A Workshop Curriculum for Kindergarten-Grade 5
The writing units of study help teachers provide their students with instruction, opportunities for practice, and concrete doable goals to help them meet and exceed any set of high standards. It is an understatement to say these units have been piloted many times. The teaching in these books has been planned, taught, revised, and retaught, through a cycle of improvement involving literally thousands of classrooms in schools dotting the globe. Each writing unit represents about five to six weeks of teaching, structured into three or four “bends in the road.” Rather than tackling the entire journey all at once, it’s easier to embark on this series of shorter, focused bends, pausing between each to regroup and prepare for the next.
